Urban Utopias documents municipal open spaces like public parks, community gardens and city farms in south London.
These sites are the meeting point for diverse narratives around community, nature, ownership and the city. The project focuses on open spaces in areas like Camberwell, Vauxhall, Peckham and Brixton. 19th Century figures like William Blake, Octavia Hill and John Ruskin had connections to many of the parks and open spaces in these areas, which we now enjoy.
Urban Utopias is evidence of a multicultural and horticultural ideal; it celebrates the community efforts that sustain these sites.
